A light well is what brings daylight deep into a building, and that’s what a well-installed window should do for your home. We could list specifications all day, but seeing the work speaks louder than claims. These before-and-after jobs from San Francisco neighborhoods show what changes when fogged glass, sticking sashes, and drafty frames come out, and windows sized for the opening go in. This is the kind of work our crews do on a regular basis.

Fogged Double-Pane Replacement in Noe Valley
Before
AfterThe problem: a picture window facing Twin Peaks had failed seals, so the view looked permanently smeared. We removed the old sash, checked the rough opening for rot (there was a small section on the sill, and we cut it out and replaced it with new Douglas fir), then set a new dual-pane low-E window from Mr-Glass. The result: the homeowner can see Twin Peaks again, and the room holds heat on foggy mornings that used to seep straight through the glass.
Street-Facing Bay Window Restoration in the Richmond District
Before
AfterThe problem: a 1920s bay window had sagged enough that the center panel wouldn’t close, and the salt air off Ocean Beach had eaten through the original putty. Our crew rebuilt the seat board, re-glazed all three sashes, and installed new weatherstripping from CWS. Then we painted the exterior trim to match the home’s original color. The windows close with one finger now, and the street noise from Geary dropped noticeably.
Patio Door Swap in Glen Park
Before
AfterThe problem: a single-pane aluminum slider from the 1970s had a track that had worn down to a groove, so the door needed two hands and a running start to move. It also let in cold air at the threshold. We installed a new Therma-Tru sliding patio door with a low-profile track and multi-point lock. The result: the door glides open with two fingers, and the locking point actually meets the strike plate. That’s a detail homeowners rarely think about until they feel it click.
Foggy Morning Draft Fix in the Sunset

The problem: a bedroom window facing the ocean had single-pane glass and gaps so wide you could feel the draft from the bed. The homeowners’ toddler slept poorly on foggy nights. We removed the old frame, squared the opening, and set a ViewLux triple-pane window with argon fill and a tighter frame seal. We scheduled the install for the morning and used hand tools during any noisy part to keep nap time quiet. The result: the bedroom is 7 degrees warmer on a typical February night, and the kid sleeps through the fog.
Kitchen Garden Window Upgrade in Bernal Heights

The problem: a fixed pane over the kitchen sink meant no airflow when cooking, and the old frame had swollen shut from years of steam and grease. We installed a new ECO Window Systems garden window with a side-opening vent panel. The shelf fits three potted herbs, and the vent now pulls steam out when the owner cooks. We used pet-safe sealants and put down drop cloths before removing the old frame, because the family’s cat camps out under the sink during the day.
Front Door and Sidelight Replacement in the Mission

The problem: a front door that had warped so badly it scraped the threshold every time it opened, and a sidelight with a crack running from corner to corner. We removed the old door and sidelight, reframed the opening for a square fit, and installed a Therma-Tru fiberglass door with a new sidelight carrying matching glass. The door swings clean and locks with a deadbolt that actually aligns. On a windy day, there’s no whistle through the entryway anymore.
